2026 Scholarship applications are OPEN

The LHBA Trades Scholarship will award at least five students up to $1,000 for the purchase of tools, work gear, safety equipment or other items needed for the pursuit of a trades career.

Application deadline is January 31

The Workforce Development Committee will review all applications in February and make a determination based on need, opportunity and desire to pursue a trades career within the Lakeshore HBA territory.

Scholarship recipients will be announced in March, and an awards ceremony will be held to celebrate these students and gift them their funding to start the next chapter of their career journey.

NEW OPPORTUNITY: Company Sponsored Scholarship(s)
We are fortunate to have members who are passionate about trades education, so we are pleased to announce an opportunity for member companies to sponsor a scholarship(s). Companies may sponsor a scholarship(s) with a minimum $1,000 contribution (funding for one full scholarship). Companies may sponsor increments of $1,000, up to $5,000 and will receive recognition based on contribution amount with their company logo displayed on the LHBA Scholarship webpage, in the Lakeshore Parade of Homes guidebook scholarship recipients page, and at the awards ceremony in April.

This unique opportunity will be available for up to 5 companies every scholarship award season.

Criteria for Scholarship Consideration

  • Applicants should be between the ages of 17 and 24, with the exception of US armed forces veterans, and pursuing a career in the residential trades industry.
  • Applicants cannot be awarded scholarships in multiple years but can apply if they did not receive prior assistance from Lakeshore HBA.
  • Applicants should live within the Lakeshore HBA territory, spanning the West Michigan Lakeshore from Fennville North to Ludington, and East to Allendale.
  • Immediate family members of the LHBA Workforce Development Committee are not eligible to receive scholarship funding. Immediate family members are defined as a parent; sibling; child by blood or adoption or marriage; spouse; grandparent or grandchild.
  • Any scholarship funding must be used within the calendar year that it was awarded. Applicants will be asked to provide proof of funding use.
  • Winners will be asked to complete an acceptance form, acknowledging the conditions of the scholarship and agree to attend a brief meeting in November to assess impact of the scholarship.
